Mistress of her own destiny BACKGROUNDBorn in Uppsala, Sweden to a violinist and his wife, Christine knew misfortune at the tender age of six when her mother passed away. Christine and her father often traveled, never staying in one place for long as they enchanted many audiences. Daddy Daaé with his music and the little girl with her angelic voice. It was this way of life that led them to Professor Valerius who decided to take the pair of them under his wing. And so, Valerius became a second father to Christine--his wife becoming a mother. From Gothenburg to Paris they went, Christine’s education all provided for. Wanderlust brought the pair right to a young Vicomte de Chagny, who joined Christine in listening to dark Northern stories. Oh, how cruel that she could be little more than a rarity. A novelty still unworthy of a Vicomte. Father begins to cough, promising to send her the Angel of Music. A character in one of his stories said to bless good children with great musical skill. Daddy Daaé dies and so does the Professor, leaving a heartbroken Christine with her Mamma. Despite losing all passion, she trains at the Paris Conservatoire and obtains a job as a chorus girl at the Palais Garnier. An Angel of Music does indeed appear to train her, hiding in shadows and walls. Under his tutelage, Christine thrives when a twist of fate sets her in the spotlight. Reuniting her with Raoul de Chagny on the same night. It’s then she learns that her Angel is actually the “opera ghost” haunting the opera house. The Phantom, who kills and terrorizes without thought. Christine is adamant about his existence to Raoul, frightened and enthralled all at once. Without Erik, would she lose her love for music once more? The two young lovers play at being engaged, playing with their hearts as if it’s all a childhood game. One last performance. One last performance before they would flee far beyond Erik’s reach. But during Faust, Christine is whisked away to his lair. He gives her a choice: turn the scorpion and marry him to save innocent lives. Or turn the grasshopper, dooming everyone else. Christine turns the scorpion...fulfilling Erik’s wish to have a living wife. PERSONALITYWell-mannered and eager to please ever since her girlhood, there is no doubt as to why so many are drawn to Christine. She has a kind smile for all and will offer a helping hand. A soothing presence. Christine is a very empathetic individual, moved to tears whenever someone is in distress. She is also somewhat motherly, prone to taking care of her loved ones. Christine has a soft spot for children and loves to give sweets away. Loving to sing, she will do so whenever asked. Her nature will let her love even monsters, to a certain extent. Despite her dreamy exterior, she can be rather concentrated when necessary. Christine is a free spirit and after her ordeal will not let herself be controlled again. Raised to be kind, she no longer wants to stand by while people suffer. When moved to do so, she has no problem expressing her dislike or displeasure. Whatever it may be at the time, she has firm beliefs. Christine is after all still human, feeling fear just as easily as she can show bravery. She is highly emotional at times, prone to wanting to run away and escape. Her beliefs can be rather troublesome, as shown by the incident where she clung to believing that Erik had been an angel sent by her father until it was too late. Her love for her father keeps her in the past still. Kind words sway her easily, as she craves love. Her loneliness makes it all the more easier for some to take advantage of her. Though she wants and tries to be independent, she also craves someone to lean on. Someone who will be gentle to her and take care of her. Often she will try to give others another chance, against her better judgement. This can certainly be turned against her, though she often doesn’t think of the consequences. Besides music, Christine loves stories. She was raised on dark Northern tales, after all. She meets everything new with wonder and excitement. Having been educated and sponsored by wealthy caretakers she has all the airs of a lady, though she is not haughty. All she wants in life is to be happy. Christine's movements are practiced and graceful as if she were royalty or a fairy walking among mortals. One would argue that she is pure and pristine. Christine, however, would laugh out loud at the concept of purity--pointing out that many say she is "just a singer." A young lady with no prospects and no business mingling with those above her despite labels. Is she not allowed to be human? Others aside, Christine expresses anger when anyone forces her to do something. Miss Daaé is, after all, mistress of her own actions...and will not soon let you forget it. ABILITIESBilingual Having lived in both countries, Christine speaks her native Swedish and French fluently. Singing & Acting Christine has a classically trained voice for opera, her singing described as seraphic. Indeed, it’s as if the young lady could bring the audience up to heaven. Now she can reach high notes with impressive ease, holding them for as long as she’s required to. While acting isn’t as important in opera, she has some talent in that and conveys emotions well with her voice and facial expressions. Her movements. Music & Memory As a singer, she must be able to read sheet music and does so with no trouble. Christine is also able to demonstrate impressive concentration and diligence, given a lead role with little hesitation. A sharpened memory is important in her career. EXTRAN/A |
